Cassava-based product development for food production

The Maranao People Development Center (MARADECA), Inc. in partnership with the Department of Agrarian Reform through the support of the Italian Agrarian Reform Community Development Support Program (IARCDSP) conducted training on Product Development on Cassava Processing for Starch and Food Production at the Searsolin training center, Xavier University Cagayan de Oro city. On October 1-5, 2017.

The training presented basic information on cassava products processing as well as skills training through a hands-on processing of cassava products. The training also includes basic knowledge of how to preserve the products and the practice of food safety.        

The technology basically follows the practice of the proper handling of Cassava Processing with actual hands on training. Cassava Production positions itself as one of the major income sources in the agrarian reform beneficiaries especially in women-led economic household activities.

Product Development on Cassava Processing for Starch and Food Production for the Agrarian Reform Communities (ARCs) in the municipality of Piagapo in the province of Lanao del Sur are geared towards providing the ARBOs with technical support services to substantially improve their cassava production and processing, including business and marketing operations.

The program is under the AEDS – IARCDSP of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM), specifically for the province of Lanao del Sur.

The technology has opened the minds of the farmers and women to be creative and to develop a positive attitude towards productivity and self-reliance. Jaffar G. Hadji Basher
