Lanao Del Sur villages receive water filtration units from Lutheran World Relief

The Lutheran World Relief (LWR) in partnership with Maranao People Development Center (MARADECA), Inc. distributed water filtration systems to the municipalities of Poona Bayabao, Raamain, Buadi Puso Buntong and Bubong all from the province of Lanao del Sur. Twenty (20) barangays were the benefactors of the water filtration project from the said municipalities.

The technology is a point-of use microbiological water purifier intended for routine use in the community. Life Straw makes previously contaminated water drinkable by removing bacteria, viruses, protozoan cysts, dirt and small particles from the water, preventing waterborne disease such as typhoid, worms, cholera, and other forms of diarrhea. This life straw has a lifetime filtration capacity of 72,000 – 100,000 liters. Uses no chemicals, thus leaves no bad taste or odor in purified water and does not require electrical power, batteries or replacement of parts.

Residents and home-based IDPs was rely on available water resources that could have an adverse effect on the health of the people.  Life straw is a modern water cleaning technology that have the utmost potential impact on IDPs lives, given that the need for clean water is one of the most important basic needs of a person.
