WASH facilities benefited 102 households

To increase children and community’s access for safe water necessary for hygiene and sanitation, four cubicles of latrines were constructed and two water pumps in barangay barangay Langi Talub, Masiu and in Moriatao Datu, Lumbayanague of Lanao Sur.

The project benefited 102 households.

Maradeca Inc. and Caritas-Australia supported the construction of WASH facilities to discourage open defecation and nurture good hygiene specially among children.

“Community visitors can also use our comfort rooms. Our safe water will help secure our children from health risks like diarrhea, skin diseases and other causes of illness,” expressed Saharal Dimapinto.

Prior public consultations were undertaken with school authorities, community officials, and residents before they constructed the facilities.

Public education on water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) were also attended by 232 participants inclusive of 142 children and 90 adults. It was held in schools and madrasas.

Storytelling, actual demonstration of hand-washing, and photo exhibits on good hygiene and sanitation practices were shown to participants.
