Navigating Challenges to Ensure Immunization: A Midwife Dedication

“The journey towards immunization coverage is not without challenges”

The unwavering dedication, selflessness, compassion and commitment to serve people jaunting in the aisle of ardent needs earned a legacy and reputations that will be nurtured in the minds and heart of some 4,136 in residents of Barangay Litayin, Bongo Island.  This is the story of Kairia L. Mustapha, a 33-years old mother,  a devoted midwife,  and a dedicated healthcare worker.

The daunting challenges of Kairia in sitio Hadja Asma were a common and  popular issue during the implementation of the COVID19 vaccination immunization coverage. The religious beliefs and the misconceptions about the vaccines which actually posed significant barriers to achieving comprehensive immunization coverage, requires urgent intervention.

With the collaboration of MARADECA Inc., Relief International, UNICEF, and USAID, the intervention was launched.  Kairia’s request to target areas in Sitio Hadji Asma was met with resounding support from local stakeholders including religious leaders and barangay officials.

The information  drive of MARADECA, which includes public announcements, educations and lectures by religious leaders, and the informative discussion viz a viz COVID19 vaccines led by Kairia undoubtedly sowed fruitful gains.  Through her unwavering effort and the support of different stakeholders, people were enlightened and the misconception about vaccine ingredients was properly addressed leading to a deeper understanding of the importance of immunization.

The outcome of the unwavering dedication of Kairia and the support from various stakeholders was tangible as the number of hesitancy decreased and the community embraced the benefit of routine immunization.  It underscored the transformative power of community collaboration.  As Kairia attested, the journey toward immunization coverage is not without challenges.

In the face of adversity, kairia stands as a testamdent to the indomitable spirit of healthcare workers.  Through her tireless effort, she not only saved lives but also inspired hope and transformation in the community she served. In barangay Litayin, Bongo Island, her legacy of compassion and commitment will endure for years to come.
